How did you come up with Josh's Journal?

I've been making "TV Shows" since I was 18 years old. Even before it was popular to do so on YouTube. My first shows were made with a huge camcorder that held full-sized VHS tapes. I used action figures as the characters. They were my "actors," meaning, for example, that I came up with stories and chose which toys looked the part.

I have certainly come a long way from those days. For one, I don't have to use my vcr as a linear video editor. However, as far as I've come I still use six inch figures as main characters.

"Josh's Journal" was first conceived as part of my thesis project that was required of fine arts majors. I had a tough time coming up with something that satisfied my professors. That was up to their standards. My thesis ended up being a series of illustrations depicting some memorable moments in my father's life--"Father Tales." I also made short videos with little foam figures that brought to life other moments of my childhood with my father (I drew these first as a comic book series).

I liked the videos so much that I turned other volumes of the comic book series into more videos. I eventually used original ideas (including events that never could have possibly happened) for my videos. Thus "Josh's Journal" was born.

What is Josh's Journal about?

Josh's Journal is a TV/Web series that looks at teenagers living in today's world and gives a viewer a fresh take on how to deal with life's problems. And how is that done? Through Josh's journal. We see his imagination come to life, not on static pages but played out on the screen. He acts out his daily dramas to find meaning in his life and in the good and not-so-good things that happen to him. He imagines himself into fantastical circumstances to find escape and live out his dreams. He casts his fears, doubts, and issues as huge 'monsters' that he must face-- and overcome.
